Bull Shoals Dam, built on the White River, forms Bull Shoals
Lake.
Bull Shoals Dam was the fifth largest concrete
dam in the United States when construction was completed in 1952.
Bull Shoals Lake is a clear-cold water mountain lake that reaches
depths of over 250 feet. With clarity, depth and water temperature,
it is very unique and apart from other lakes in the Midwest and
South.
It
is a fantastic lake for all types of water recreation and water
sports, from fishing, skiing, sailing and
boating to scuba diving. There are many added features on the
lake making it a true water enthusiast's haven. There are numerous
resorts, marinas and lodges around the lake to serve your needs.
You can rent a pontoon to cruise the lake, a houseboat to live
on the lake or a cottage to call home. With over 71,000 surface
acres and over 1,000 miles of shoreline, you can go for hours
and see a minimum number of people on the water. When thinking
of other Ozark lakes, none compare to Bull Shoals. Where else
can you go to find such a well kept secret.
Bull
Shoals is renowned for fantastic fishing. Because the lake
is large, fish are always biting somewhere.
While fishing on Bull Shoals Lake, or "Bull" as it
is known by many, you may catch a number of different species.
Bull has produced many state and world record fish. Small mouth
bass are very abundant with 4-pound and 5-pound fish not uncommon.
Kentucky bass, a cousin to the largemouth bass, resides in the
lake in significant numbers. Crappie also are plentiful in the
lake, and they are expected to increase in numbers and size over
the next few years through efforts of the Arkansas Game and Fish
Commission and local organizations. Walleye is probably the greatest
success story on Bull Shoals Lake in recent years. Again, with
the efforts of the AGFC, walleye are flourishing in great numbers
and size. A limit of walleye is not uncommon with fish in the
8-pound to 10-pound class. The lake has other species including
rainbow trout, blue, channel and flathead catfish, white bass
and sunfish to name a few. It makes no difference whether you
are a tournament fisherman, novice, child or experienced fisherman,
Bull Shoals Lake has it for you. There are many fishing areas,
handicap fishing piers and docks that allow fishing. Please check
with our members for details and locations.
NOTE - The lake does not freeze and you can fish
365 days a year.
Bull Shoals Lake is not limited to just
water activities. Being owned by the US government and controlled
by the Army Corps of
Engineers, the shoreline around the lake is open to the public.
You may hunt, hike or bird watch along the "strip" that
surrounds the lake. There are some restricted areas. Please consult
with the Army Corps of Engineers as to the restrictions before
you use a particular area.
Where else can you go and find all of this? Bull
Shoals Lake is one of few lakes that is still uncrowded, unpolluted, and unspoiled!
